Tiny homes are one of the biggest crazes in the last couple of years. These ingenious living spaces may not have that much room, but their designs and layouts are made so that everything fits in perfectly without having to sacrifice many things. However, keep in mind that bigger isn't always better. Compared to spacious outdoor places, small yards can mean less cleaning but…

Buying a home is very exciting yet it requires some compromises. Normally, your budget will determine the size and the type of home you’ll be able to afford. This might mean that you will have to choose a home with only one garage, or a home with a small backyard instead of a large one.

However, keep in mind that bigger isn't always better. Compared to spacious outdoor places, small yards can mean less cleaning but an equal amount of pleasure and fun. In order to boost your creativity, we've come up with these 5 design ideas for tiny yards worth considering.

Outdoor living room

If you value space and comfort you should consider creating an extra living room in your backyard. These things are now in! Even a small patio can be turned into a cozy space with a proper placement of furniture and planters. You can always protect your outdoor room from elements by adding an awning or you can choose to completely close the room with sliding doors. That way you can enjoy your open living space even during harsh weather conditions. Don't restrain yourself from adding a bit of style by using traditional indoor furniture. Throw pillows and carpets can give warmth to your room and create a welcoming feel.

Storage shed

If your garage is too small (or non-existent) you may consider building a storage shed in your yard. It is a perfect place to store rakes, grass seed, shovels and other gardening tools. One can't deny how useful yard sheds are for keeping outdoor supplies and gardening tools organized and accounted for. The best part is that your shed can be placed anywhere in your yard, which will leave you with enough space for other ideas that might enhance the look of your outdoor haven. Most of the modern sheds have a modular construction which makes them easy to build.

Backyard pool

That is right! Pools are not just reserved for big yards. Many people want to have a pool, even a small one. If that is the case with you than a cozy outdoor spa pool might just be what your yard needs. It is a perfect solution when you need to cool off on a hot summer day. Adding a small pool to your tiny yard is not difficult and the results will definitely leave you breathless. Soon you'll have a new favorite hangout place just a couple of steps away from your living room.

Small garden

Almost every yard has a plant or two here and there but having a real garden can be delightful. Plants can give you privacy as effectively as fences or walls. Aside from that, they are colorful, full of texture and can smell amazing. Whether it is big or small, a garden's design should be approached with equal care. Therefore, don't write off your tiny yard, because with a right design, it can become your personal forest.

Small fountain

One might say it is a bit pretentious but we don't agree at all. There isn't anything more relaxing than a sound of running water. It doesn't have to be a complicated and lavish spring to serve its purpose. Make a more traditional and simple one by creating a tabletop fountain. These types of fountains are easily made with a simple pot and sprout. Ideas for design go from a small waterfall to a little bronze frog trickling water into a pot. Add some floating flowers and enjoy them moving around as the water smoothly flows into the basin.
