Decorating a Small Home Office - Top 5 Tips

Even though your apartment may not be large, you can always find space to build a small home office. You just need to be a little more creative and find a way to incorporate everything you need in there. In order to help you decorate it according to the latest trends and create a place which will inspire you to work hard and be fully concentrated, we’ve singled out our top 5 tips on how to achieve this fast and easy. Feel free to take a look.

Choose the right nuance for the walls

First things first, you need to set the right mood in your home office and the best way to achieve this is by choosing an appropriate nuance for the walls. You should be careful not to opt for overly dark tones since they will make this room look even smaller and you’ll feel constantly suffocated and claustrophobic. Additionally, it has been shown by many researchers that colours have a strong influence on our mind and emotions, so you should opt for those which will help you feel comfortable and inspire you to be more productive. For instance, blue is a common choice among office designers due to its relaxing quality, as well as green which reminds us of all the beauties of nature and its healing properties.

Sit/stand workstation is a must

Instead of wasting too much space by bringing in a bulky desk, think about opting for a DIY corner workstation. It will perfectly fit your small office and free up a lot of floor space for other furniture items. All you need is a nice piece of wood and shelf brackets in order to attach your workstation to the wall. The best thing is that you can adjust its height according to your own needs and preferences. You can even position it high enough to create a standing desk which will help you be more active while working and avoid ending up suffering from serious back pain. Of course, don’t forget to bring in a bar stool for when you want to sit down and relax a bit.

Get rid of all the distractions

Apart from knowing what to bring into your home office, you should also know what’s 100% forbidden – technology, at least anything other than your business laptop. So, instead of filling your office with fun gadgets and a TV set, you should go minimalistic and incorporate only the items that you’ll really use while working, such as the super-useful Winc sticky notes and similar office supplies. This way, you won’t get distracted easily and you’ll be able to focus better on your work. The same goes for any other unnecessary home accessories. Not only will they overcrowd the room, but they will make it much harder for you to think clearly. After all, you can’t expect to stay focused if you’re constantly surrounded by mess.

Add a personal touch

Even though we deem simplicity and the lack of clutter absolutely essential when designing an office, it doesn’t mean that we don’t appreciate adding a personal touch to it. So, instead of creating a home office that looks exactly like all those others featured in popular home improvement magazines, feel free to release your creative side and come up with something truly special. For example, you can design a cute collage of your family photos and hang it on the wall next to your desk. Thanks to it, you’ll always be able to see your dearest ones and remind yourself why all your hard work is worth it.

Add some greenery

Last but not least, apart from styling up your office, you need to make it healthy as well. Therefore, it’s not surprising that greenery has become an absolute must in the field of interior design these days. However, regardless of whether you are keen on following all the latest trends, or not, you can’t deny that adding a few potted plants will purify the air in your office and enrich it with oxygen necessary for you to function properly and give your 100%. Finally, if you take a visit to the nearby thrift shops and florists, you’ll be surprised to see how many interestingly-patterned pots you can find and use them to add a finishing touch to your elegant office.

As you can see, decorating your small office will be a piece of cake. You just need to discover which colours suit your senses the best, what kind of furniture represents the most appropriate choice and then find a way to make your office unique by adding a special touch to it. We wish you a lot of luck with this project and to enjoy your work at home more than ever!
